NS Online Math Tutoring Classes

 Are you available for home tuition?

              I am not available for home tuition. Instead, I am available for one-on-one and group online tuition in Mathematics.

 How does online tutoring work?

              Nowadays, most of us know about how the online classes are conducted because of the COVID pandemic, though my online classes are a little different.

​

I use the Bitpaper whiteboard, which is an interactive whiteboard on which both the teacher and the students can write together, in both one-one-one and group sessions. The students are required to have their digital pen tablets or touch screen tablets in order to write. The students have the link to the classroom so that they may come back to the virtual classroom, even after the class, to go through the class work. The students solve Math questions on the whiteboard which makes the classes more interactive. I can see what mistakes the students are making while solving a particular Math problem.

Usually in case of group sessions, a session is recorded when a student is absent so that the recording is available to the student. The students may take snapshots of the important portions of the sessions and save them.

The sessions may be recorded using the Skype or Zoom recording facility. Usually the recording feature is more often used for group sessions. The recordings are sent to all the students. The video calling is done mainly through Skype though Zoom or Google Meet are also used for students residing in countries where Skype doesn't work. Screen sharing is also done when needed.

The students are asked to solved at least 4-5 medium length questions everyday and they are helped whenever they get stuck with any question. No test is taken but students are asked to solve questions from the previous chapters without any prior notice.

What are the hardware requirements?

               You don't need any special hardware. You can use your regular desktop or laptop computer, iPad or a tablet. I do not recommend using smartphones for your sessions since the screen size is too small. Headphones may be used if needed. You would be needing an external webcam in case you don't have an in-built one. A digital pen tablet or a touch screen tablet is a must for writing for students who want to learn one-on-one or in groups of 2. You may get a WACOM or a XP digital pen tablet.

What are the software requirements?

                The first and foremost requirement for a hassle free online tutoring session is a high speed internet connection. I use the Bitpaper whiteboard for conducting sessions. The students from the one-on-one sessions and from the 2 in a group sessions click on the given link to enter the virtual classroom. A Skype account is necessary for video calling.

 

 

How long are your sessions? 

                   Sessions are usually of one hour, one and a half hours or two hours. it varies depending on the availability and the requirement of the student. It also depends on the availability of the free tutoring slots.

What is the maximum size of a group?

                  There are two types of groups.

 a) Two students make a group. They are usually friends from the same school. The fee is charged on an hourly basis.

 b) Three to a maximum of ten students make a group. They may be from the same school or may be from different schools. The fee is charged on a monthly basis. It is the most cost effective option where you have to pay a lesser amount but your kids get access to the same knowledge that the students of the other online tutoring types are getting.

Why do we need to purchase online courses?

                   Sometimes the availabilities of the students and myself do not match. One of the major reasons is the time difference between the two countries, for example the huge time difference between US and India. But it can be for a student from India as well. The students may purchase online courses and go through them whenever they want and may request for one or two doubt clearing sessions (if required).

How should the payment be made?

                 The payment should be done in advance every month before the commencement of the first session of that month. The payment is usually done through direct bank transfer.

What is your rescheduling/cancellation of sessions policy?

                  You may reschedule a session, if necessary, if a free slot is available. You may cancel a session if necessary and the money would get adjusted in the next month's fees. The rescheduling or cancellation of a session should be done at least 24 hours before the commencement of the targeted session. They may be done on the same day only in case of emergencies like illness or accident. But frequent rescheduling or cancellation would not be entertained and if practiced, we may have to think about whether to continue with our teaching learning journey together. Students should join the session at the right time since I have back to back sessions and hence it is not possible to extend them though I try my best to give few extra minutes if possible.
