7 Tricks of Proving Trigonometric Identities

I have seen students who think proving of Trigonometric Identities is the toughest thing in their entire Math syllabus. Hence thought of giving 7 strategies that can be taken to prove the identities. See the given trigonometric identity and try to relate the given identity with one of the seven types of identities given below. Next, follow the method used to prove it.

1.

In this video, a Trigonometric identity is proved using one of the three basic identities Sec^2 (θ) = 1 + Tan^2 (θ). You may need to use one of the other two basic Trigonometric Identities as well.

2.

In this video, a Trigonometric identity is proved by converting other Trig Ratios to Sin and Cos. We have Sin in the right hand side of this identity but even if there is no Sin or Cos in the right hand side, you can still convert the ratios of the left hand side to Sin and Cos, do the necessary working and finally get the ratios present in the right hand side. Try this method if you cannot think of any direct method of proving the given identity.

3.

This is the fourth video of the series of videos explaining the different techniques of proving a trigonometric identity. In this video, we have taken a Trigonometric identity which has a fractional form in the left hand side and also the Trig ratios are the same in both the numerator and the denominator. We have a 1 in both the numerator and the denominator as well.

This is the fifth video of the series of videos explaining the different techniques of proving a trigonometric identity. In this video, we have taken a Trigonometric identity which has a square root sign only on the left hand side.

5.

In this video, we have taken a Trigonometric identity which has similar terms on either side of the 'equal to' sign.

6.

This is the seventh and the second last video of the series of videos explaining the different techniques of proving a trigonometric identity. In this video, we have proved a Trigonometric identity starting from the right hand side and have known when to apply this technique.

7.

This is the last video of the series of videos explaining the different techniques of proving a trigonometric identity. In this video, we have proved a Trigonometric identity which we could not prove starting from anyone of the two sides and have known when to apply this technique.
